On August 14th 2012, voters in Miami Dade County had a unique opportunity to overturn our city’s 23 year old dog breed ban that prohibits the ownership of the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Disappointingly, at that time voters chose to retain the ban despite overwhelming evidence that Breed Specific Legislation does nothing to reduce the incidence of dog-related attacks or injuries.
In an interview on August 9th 2012, Dr. Ian Kupkee from Sabal Chase Animal Clinic and Edel Miedes of K9 Advisors discussed the issue on 91.3 WLRN’s Topical Currents with Joseph Cooper. Please listen to the recording of that show, as we inform our citizens of the veterinary community’s concerns over Breed Specific Legislation, by presenting evidence-based facts and scientific data that can not, and should not be ignored.
