Summer Safety Tips for Our Seal Beach Pups

While dogs love the sunny weather, it's essential to be aware of the potential dangers that exist. The sun and heat can be dangerous for dogs, as they can quickly become dehydrated or overheated. The pavement can also be problematic, as it can get hot enough to burn your dog's paws. Be sure to keep an eye on your dog during the harsh days of summertime, and provide plenty of water to keep them cool and hydrated! Dog owners should take note of these summer safety tips for our seal beach pups!

Be Careful of the Heat

While you may be able to tolerate the warmth of summertime, you need to remember that your pup is covered in fur, and they may feel the effects of the warm sun more than you. To keep your dog safe from the heat, ensure they always have plenty of cool water and a bowl to drink from. Find them a comfy and cool spot with plenty of shade for them to relax in as well. If your dog does get too hot, immediately cool them down however you can and seek veterinary attention if necessary.

Watch Out For Hot Ground

You must remember that your dog is probably walking barefoot wherever it goes. If you have ever felt the sidewalk on a hot sunny day, you know that it can get quite hot! A general rule of thumb to follow is if the ground is too hot for you to step on, it's too hot for your pup. A good summer safety tip for our seal beach pups is to avoid having them walk on ground that heats up easily. Take walks in the cooler areas and consider putting on boots to protect them!

Watch Out For The Signs of Dehydration and Heatstroke

Dehydration and heatstroke are both severe medical conditions that can be fatal for dogs if not treated immediately. Signs of dehydration include excessive panting, lethargy, dry mouth, and sunken eyes. Signs of heatstroke include excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures. If you see any of these signs in your dog, it is essential to take them to the vet immediately.
